LEARNING OUTCOMES

After taking this course, you will be able to:

  • Explain the importance of implementing OSHA regulation for a safe and healthful workplace to workers.

  • Recognize how management/contractor plays a vital role to create a safe work environment through safety and health programs, worksite analysis to identify potential hazards on site, and levels of controls used to control exposure to falls, electrical, hazardous materials and situations

  • Identify the struck-by and caught-in or caught-between hazards associated with serious construction-related injuries and illness

  • Recognize the appropriate PPE to use based on a workplace assessment and the types of hazards present in job-site.

  • Identify hazards posed by lead, asbestos and silica in construction and how to control and avoid them to create a safe work environment

  • Recognize the hazards of asbestos and identify ways work safely around asbestos, including monitoring, communication, training, medical surveillance, using PPE, engineering controls and administrative control

  • Identify safe work practices for electricity, including recognizing electrical terms, basic electrical safety principles, and electrical safety regulations of NFPA, OSHA and National Electric Code

  • Recognize the hazards associated with non-powered hand tools and identify hazards related to powered hand tools and know how to operate safely.

  • Recognize types of fall hazards and how to prevent/avoid falls by using appropriate fall protection

  • Recognize ladder hazards, types of ladder-related injuries, and how to select, inspect, maintain and safe use of ladders

  • Recognize the types of scaffolds and learn how to work in scaffold safely.

  • Identify the safety requirements for working with or near cranes, including how to avoid injuries and accidents by recognizing hazards

  • Recognize the hazard and learn safe work practices for working with or near heavy equipment

  • Recognize the hazard and learn safe operating procedures for forklifts, workplace hazards, and how to handle special types of forklifts in job-site.

  • Identify how to properly use, maintain, store, and dispose of regular and hazardous waste materials

  • Identify a confined space Permit/Non-permit Required, its hazards, the OSHA requirements for working in confined spaces, and the duties and responsibilities of confined space workers and attendance.

  • Identify methods of fire prevention and learn OSHA requirements for fire protection and prevention.

  • Identify the safety requirements for welding and cutting and learn the safety precaution.

  • Recognize the OSHA safety regulations for steel erection activities and describe safe work practice

  • Recognize the ergonomics hazard of construction workers, avoid work-related MSDs and identify how to avoid on-the-job injury when performing different types of activities.
